Seismological Observation and Research (NSCSOR), Kazakhstan

Galina Khachikyan is a Principal Research Scientist at the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observation and Research (NSCSOR), Almaty, Kazakhstan. She received a PhD in Math and Physics (Geophysics) in 1979 at the Tbilisi University, Georgia (former USSR), and a DSc in Math and Physics (Habilitation), in 1998 at the Institute of the Ionosphere, Academy of Sciences, Almaty, Kazakhstan. After a period as a Researcher at the Institute of the Ionosphere, in 2002, he became a Research Scientist at the Institute of Seismology Kazakh Academy of Sciences (present NSCSOR), Almaty, Kazakhstan. As an NSCSOR Regional Seismicity team member, she developed a methodology for analyzing solar-terrestrial coupling, including geomagnetic field and lithosphere processes. Her study covers statistics on the relationship between the geometry of the main geomagnetic field, the main seismotectonic belts’ geography, and the seismic activity response to geospace weather. In Solar-terrestrial research, she contributed to developing an approach to reveal a response of seismic activity to geomagnetic storms. She is the author of more than fifty papers and conference proceedings (in English). She has also co-authored two books (in Russian): Meteorological Effects in the Ionosphere (1986) and Seismotectonic deformation of Earth’s crust in the territory of Kazakhstan (2020).
