About & Expertise
I am an Associate Professor in Experimental Infection Medicine at Lund University with over 15 years of experience in molecular and genomic microbiology. My research focuses on antimicrobial resistance and the prevalence of pathogens in wastewater and clean water, with field studies in Chile, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I am particularly interested in translational approaches, using bacteriophages, predatory bacteria, and phage enzymes to develop innovative biotechnological and biopharmaceutical solutions.
Career Summary
After earning my PhD in 2011 and completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Rockefeller University, I established my lab at Lund University in 2015 and was appointed Associate Professor in 2018. I have supervised more than 20 MSc students, PhD candidates, and postdocs, and I hold several patents in biotechnology and biopharma—some of which have advanced into clinical trials and commercial products.
I have coordinated major collaborations, including the Nordic JPIAMR consortium and the Chile-Sweden ACCESS AMR program. Currently, I lead the ODIN and ODIN-Mpox projects within the EDCTP3 programme, implementing wastewater-based genomic surveillance and mobile laboratories across sub-Saharan Africa to address antimicrobial resistance and emerging pathogens.
