Dr. Alyson McGregor, MD, MA, is an emergency physician, researcher, and international expert in sex and gender-based medicine. She has dedicated her career to uncovering how male-centric research shapes diagnostic accuracy, treatment efficacy, and health outcomes for women.
At Brown University, Dr. McGregor founded the nation’s first Division of Sex and Gender in Emergency Medicine, launched the SAEM Interest Group on Sex and Gender in Emergency Care, and co-founded the enduring Sex and Gender Health Collaborative, a multispecialty network advancing education and research equity. Her groundbreaking work has been featured in her TED Talk and acclaimed book, Sex Matters: How Male-Centric Medicine Endangers Women’s Health and What We Can Do About It.
Now serving as Associate Dean at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, Dr. McGregor leads national efforts to integrate sex and gender-based science into medical education through an NIH-funded faculty development initiative. Her mission bridges research, clinical practice, and policy — ensuring that medicine evolves to serve every body, equally and precisely.
