Debbie attained her PhD from McMaster University in Biochemistry in 1995. After a three-year stint in the biotech industry, she joined Brock in 1999 in the Department of Biological Sciences where she continues to reside today as a full professor. She teaches in the Applied Grape And Wine Science program and carries out research in Brock’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI). She took on the directorship of CCOVI in 2008 and continues in that role today along with being an advisor to the Vice President Research on Industry Academia Partnerships.
Debbie’s research program spans areas of viticulture, oenology, wine yeast and sensory science as it applies to Canada’s grape and wine sector. Debbie has been involved in the grape and wine industry her entire life, knows first-hand the issues facing the industry and is happy to help solve them through research.
