I am a Senior Tenured-track Scientist at the Group of Materials for Medicine and Biotechnology in the Madrid Institute of Materials Science (CSIC, Spain). I obtained my PhD Degree in Biology back in 2006 from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). During my scientific career, I have been granted with several high competitive fellowships/contracts from the Spanish Government (predoctoral FPU, postdoctoral abroad-grant, postdoctoral Juan de la Cierva, and postdoctoral Miguel Servet). I have published over 75 research articles, co-edited a book for Springer-Nature and contributed to more than 125 scientific conferences, with several dozens of invited talks. To date, I have been principal investigator of 7 research projects from competitive national and european calls and an assocciated funded budget of more than 2 M€. Since January 2023, I am coordinating Piezo4Spine, a Horizon Europe PathFinder project devoted to find a cure for spinal cord injury (3.5 M€; 2023-2026). Also, I am actively involved in outreach, dissemination and communication activities, having participated in over 70 initiatives including 11F, European Researchers’ Night, Brain Awareness Week, Pint of Science, and many more, to assure that the knowledge we generate as scientists reaches our society. My research interests are focused on biomaterials, neural tissue engineering, 3D-printing, regenerative engineering, and nanomedicine.
