Bernard Magenhann is Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC). The JRC provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting European Union (EU) policies to positively impact society. It works with most European Commission services to put science into policy, throughout the policy cycle, and has a dense network of relationships with research and policy organisations in the Member States, with the European agencies, as well as with scientific partners in the EU and internationally.

In the JRC, Bernard Magenhann manages over 50 large-scale research infrastructures located in 6 sites and 5 Member States of the EU with almost 3000 staff. Prior to his appointment at the JRC, he was the Deputy Director-General in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Human Resources. He joined the European Commission in 2002 in the Internal Audit Service after 15 years in the private sector, respectively in Mazars and PwC.

His leadership is characterised by his closeness and genuine interest in the people he works with, his transparency in decision-making, active communication, and efficiency.
