Carla Tavares was elected Member of the European Parliament in 2024, where she serves as a member of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and of the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), as Chair of the S&D Working Group on Budgetary Control, and as a substitute member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). She is currently the European Parliament Co-Rapporteur on the next Multiannual Financial Framework.
Tavares is also Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with India and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, as well as a member of the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. Furthermore, she is a substitute member of the Committee on Development (DEVE) and the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM). Before her tenure in the European Parliament, Tavares had a distinguished career in local governance. She served as the Mayor of Amadora from October 2013 to April 2024 and was the Deputy Mayor from December 2001 to October 2013.
