She is a social psychologist committed to the belief that high quality theory and research evidence can be used not only to understand our world but also applied to make it better. Her research centres on men’s violence against women and girls and, since 2005, has focused on sexual violence prevention
She developed the Enhanced Assess, Acknowledge, Act (EAAA) sexual assault resistance education program (Flip the Script with EAAA®) for women in the first year of university. Her current research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
EAAA reduces the sexual violence women experience by 50% across the next two years while reducing woman-blaming and self-blame. To date, it has been implemented on campuses in six countries through the non-profit SARE Centre. She has active research collaborations in the U.S. and Canada to adapt and evaluate EAAA for other groups, e.g., for younger girls (14-17) in the community, for Francophone and trans university students, andfor online delivery.
Her front-line experience in a women’s shelter and other community organizations inspired her past and ongoing collaborations with sexual assault centres and Wen-Do Women’s Self Defence (http://wendo.ca ). She also contributes to sexual violence prevention and policy change through her consulting with universities and government committees and taskforces in Canada, the U.K., and U.S.
