Dr. Andre Santos is an Acting Instructor at the University of Washington School of Nursing. His research focuses on the role of physical exercise—particularly resistance training—in improving body composition and mitigating conditions such as sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity among people with HIV. He is especially interested in how strength training can counteract age-related muscle loss and promote healthier aging trajectories. Dr. Santos also investigates broader aspects of the aging process, exploring how physical activity influences metabolic health, functional capacity, and overall quality of life in older adults. His academic background includes a master’s degree and a doctorate from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. In 2023, he completed two postdoctoral fellowships: one at the University of São Paulo and another at the University of Porto, Portugal. His work has been published in respected academic journals, covering topics such as physical exercise, aging, nutrition, HIV, and infection control.
