Dr Kevin J. Farrugia

Kevin Farrugia obtained a joint undergraduate degree in chemistry and physics from the University of Malta, followed by a one-year traineeship with the Novartis Biomedical Research Institute in Switzerland. After completing a Master’s and PhD in forensic science at the University of Strathclyde, he joined Abertay University in 2011 and then moved to De Montfort University in 2019. In his current role, he teaches chemistry and forensic modules on the forensic course, in addition to supervising postgraduate students.

Kevin is actively involved in research related to the enhancement of latent marks (fingermarks and footwear marks) in addition to integrated approaches of multiple types of evidence. He is a Chartered Chemist and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, Fingerprint Society, Society of Evidence-based Policing, the International Association of Identification and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is also currently the Editor-in-Chief for Science & Justice, the official journal of The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.
