    Garron Dodd

Head of the Metabolic Neuroscience Laboratory Department of Anatomy and Physiology, School of Biomedical Sciences
    The University of Melbourne

A/Prof Garron Dodd is an internationally recognised neuroscientist and metabolic researcher, currently serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Metabolic Neuroscience Laboratory at The University of Melbourne. His research focuses on understanding how the brain regulates metabolism, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic strategies to treat obesity and type 2 diabetes. A/Prof Dodd’s work spans molecular neuroscience, neuroendocrinology, and metabolic physiology, with a particular emphasis on the brain’s extracellular matrix and its role in driving treatment resistance.

He has held prestigious fellowships and worked at leading global institutions in the UK, Germany, and USA, and has collaborated closely with industry partners including Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly. A/Prof Dodd has authored research in high-impact journals such as Nature, Cell, Cell Metabolism, and Science Advances. His laboratory employs cutting-edge techniques including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, chemogenetics, and CRISPR-based technologies.

Beyond academia, A/Prof Dodd is also a scientific founder of two biotech spin-outs focused on translating neuroscience discoveries into new treatments for metabolic disease. He is a recipient of multiple international awards and has led several public engagement initiatives. His work continues to shape how we understand and therapeutically target the neural control of energy balance.
