L. Maximilian Buja, MD is a physician-scientist and cardiovascular pathologist who has had longstanding involvement in medical education with regular direct engagement with medical students, residents and fellows during the course of a long career in academic medicine. This career also has involved multiple leadership roles, including department chair (1989-1996) and medical school dean (1996-2003). He is an author of over 500 publications, including original research papers, reviews, book chapters, two atlases of pathology, and a textbook of cardiovascular pathology. He is currently Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the McGovern Medical School of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
