Philipp Girichidis is a Privatdozent in theoretical astrophysics at Heidelberg University’s Center for Astronomy (ZAH/ITA). His research focuses on the complex interplay between plasma physics, high-energy processes—particularly the role of cosmic rays—and the dynamical evolution of the interstellar medium. He studies how these processes shape astrophysical systems across a wide range of scales, from the dense, star-forming regions within molecular clouds to large-scale galactic outflows. A key aspect of his work is the development of advanced numerical models for high performance computing applications in astrophysics.

Philipp Girichidis obtained his PhD in astrophysics at Heidelberg University. He subsequently held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Munich, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP), and Heidelberg University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and astrophysics. His work contributes to multiple collaborative efforts in the fields of star formation, cosmic-ray astrophysics, and large-scale galaxy evolution, and he is actively engaged in bridging numerical simulation, theory, and observational diagnostics.
