Centre for Musculoskeletal Research: Improving lives of patients with musculoskeletal conditions

Musculoskeletal diseases account for nearly one-third of disabilities in the UK; here we explore the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research and its vision for the future of musculoskeletal research

As one of the most successful musculoskeletal research groups in the UK, our aim is to invest in research to improve the lives of patients with musculoskeletal conditions, including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, osteoarthritis, and pain. Our studies include both adults and children.

Led by Professor Anne Barton, more than 100 members of academic and support staff are working to understand the causes and consequences of musculoskeletal conditions and develop better treatments for them. We have an established patient representative group (RUG) that regularly provides feedback on research applications and ideas.
