The Department of Microbiology & Immunology
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University is the only program of its kind in the Maritimes, offering a research-intensive environment that prepares students and postdoctoral trainees for careers in academia, medical research, biotechnology, and the food industry. With a strong reputation for academic excellence, the department provides diverse learning opportunities, including undergraduate programs with co-op options, graduate studies, and postdoctoral training.
Collaborating closely with internationally recognized clinical departments and institutions such as the QEII Health Sciences Centre and the IWK Health Centre, the department takes a multidisciplinary approach to research in bacteriology, cancer, immunology, inflammation, and virology. Its researchers are supported by nearly $3 million annually from major funding agencies and are based in leading facilities including the Sir Charles Tupper Medical Building and the Centre for Clinical Research.
