The Environmental Studies Centre (CEA) is an autonomous body dependent on the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, created at the end of the 20th century
After starting out as a training centre, our lines of action were progressively extended to management tasks and participation in projects. Among other activities, we were the driving force behind the creation of the Green Belt and managed it for several decades; we coordinated mobility policies with an emphasis on active and sustainable mobility; and we managed several facilities.
Since the beginning of the 21st century, we have been a major player at a local level in terms of participation in European projects of all kinds.
Traditionally, we have designed training programmes that promote labour insertion through internships. We have also promoted relations with universities and research centres, which have resulted in publications, teaching, research projects, end-of-degree internships, etc.
We develop a transdisciplinary activity to promote sustainability in Vitoria-Gasteiz
We are a consolidated centre, dedicated to the co-production of relevant knowledge for local decision-making, integrating the environmental, social and ethical dimensions of what is presented as the great environmental challenge of Vitoria-Gasteiz and all of Europe in the coming decades: climate action and innovation in the search for a more sustainable and resilient city. Specifically, we work in four strategic areas: sustainable mobility, green infrastructure, the agri-food system and citizen activation.
We are committed to working collaboratively with the departments of the City Council and external agents to facilitate and accelerate the necessary change towards the decarbonisation of our society and the achievement of the sustainability objectives set by the European Union.
We have a powerful environmental activation programme, with an agenda of activities for citizens aimed at knowledge, awareness, training and action.
