About the Innovation Academy

The Innovation Academy delivers world-class learning, research, and teaching that equips leaders with the confidence, skills, and capability to realise innovation in various sectors, including but not limited to ICT, Engineering, Aquaculture, Defence, Cyber Security, and Health and Care.

Part of the Innovation Academy is the All-Wales Intensive Learning Academy for Innovation in Health and Social Care (IHSC). The All-Wales IHSC Academy is supported by the Welsh Government and has been created to develop and equip leaders with the confidence, skills, and capability to realise innovation across health, social care, and the third sectors, from the incremental to the transformative, locally, nationally, and internationally. Involving public, private, and third sectors through a case-based learning and practice approach, drawing upon front-line activities of groups such as the NHS Wales Innovation Leads, through to international knowledge and expertise of international partners and networks.

The Innovation Academy offers a unique framework of learning opportunities delivered in partnership with Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, the Bevan Commission, ION Leadership, and Agor Innovation. During their studies, participants in the Academy develop skills to analyse, problem solve, and lead change and innovation within their workplace, playing a key role in the transformation of health and care systems. They challenge the status quo and use their innovative ideas to develop systems and services that benefit both the patient and organisation. Backed by comprehensive research, these ideas are implemented and assessed for their impact on the learner, their team, and their community.

About the Value-Based Health and Care Academy

Delivering Education, Research and Consultancy in Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC), the VBHC Academy is one of a highly select group of universities around the world supporting the understanding and implementation of this new and exciting approach for healthcare systems to deliver better outcomes and be financially sustainable. The VBHC Academy offers educational programmes at every level, from foundation to doctoral, underpinned by the latest research and designed for working professionals in health, social care, the third sector, life sciences industries, Government, and policy making. We deliver consultancy services to some of the biggest life sciences companies in the world and can call upon internationally recognised experts from within Wales and across the globe for all our activities.

About Value-Based Health and Care

Health and care systems worldwide face a triple threat: rising and increasingly complex demand, demographic shifts, and resource constraints.

Governments and payers striving to ensure a sustainable future for these vital services increasingly are focusing on Value: improving the outcomes that matter most to patients and service users at the lowest possible cost and improving population health within the resources available, through reallocation of resources from low-value to higher-value activities.

Swansea University has a long history of partnering with leaders in the health and care system and the life sciences industry. We are excited to be bringing rigorous thought-leadership, insights, and research that inform the development and practical implementation of Value-Based Health and Care. Participants in our programmes benefit from a rich understanding of this emerging approach and will be exposed to leaders, practitioners, and academics from a range of care settings, systems, and sectors across the globe. They will learn from real-world cases, the lived experiences and perspectives of fellow participants, and the expert faculty.

Recognised by the World Economic Forum, EU, G20, and OECD for its leadership and commitment to VBHC implementation, Wales recognises the importance of Value in all aspects of system design and leadership: in the allocation of resources, throughout the whole of care pathways, and in the procurement of services and healthcare technologies.
