About the Value-Based Health and Care Academy

Delivering Education, Research and Consultancy in Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC), the VBHC Academy is one of a highly select group of universities around the world supporting the understanding and implementation of this important approach for healthcare systems to deliver better outcomes for patients and populations and be financially sustainable.

The VBHC Academy offers educational programmes at every level from foundation to doctoral, underpinned by the latest research and designed for working professionals in health, social care, the third sector, life sciences companies, Government, and policy makers.

We deliver consultancy services to some of the biggest life sciences companies in the world and can call upon internationally recognised experts from within Wales and across the globe for all our activities.

About Value-Based Health and Care

Health and care systems worldwide face a triple challenge: rising and increasingly complex demand, demographic shifts, and resource constraints that threaten sustainability and delay innovation adoption.

Governments and payers striving to ensure a sustainable future increasingly are focusing on Value: improving the outcomes that matter most to patients and service-users at the lowest possible cost and improving population health within the resources available, through reallocation of resources from low-value to higher-value activities.

Swansea University has a long history of partnering with leaders in the health and care system and the life sciences industry. We are excited to be bringing rigorous thought-leadership, insights, and research that inform the development and practical implementation of Value-Based Health and Care.

Participants in our programmes benefit from a rich understanding of this emerging approach and will be exposed to leaders, practitioners, and academics from a range of care settings, systems, and sectors across the globe. They will learn from real-world cases, the lived experiences and perspectives of fellow participants, and the expert faculty.

Recognised by the World Economic Forum, EU, G20, and OECD for its leadership and commitment to VBHC implementation, Wales embraces the achievement of greater value in all aspects of health system design and leadership: in the allocation of resources, throughout care pathways, and in the procurement of services and healthcare technologies.

An expert affiliate of the EU Alliance for Value in Health, the VBHC Academy has memorandums of understanding with Amgen, AstraZeneca, Capadev LLP, Medtronic, Pfizer, and the Welsh Value in Health Centre, is a member of the EFPIA VBHC Think-Tank, and works closely with the EU Value-Based Procurement Community of Practice.
