Europe’s healthcare systems are under increasing pressure. Ageing populations, a growing burden of chronic disease, shortages in skills and workforce, and the rapid expansion of digital and data-driven solutions are all testing the resilience of care delivery across the continent

With all these challenges at hand, the EIT Health Annual Report 2024 presents a clear message: innovation, when supported by strong collaboration, can deliver meaningful and measurable impact for patients, professionals, and health systems alike.

A year defined by real-world impact

Throughout 2024, EIT Health focused on translating innovation into real outcomes. Across its European network, new healthcare solutions moved from concept to practice, benefiting patients directly while strengthening health systems for the future. Entrepreneurs scaled promising ideas into viable businesses, learners developed critical skills for transformation, and policymakers worked with a trusted partner to shape more resilient healthcare models.

This impact reflects the strength of Europe’s innovation ecosystem when research, education, business, and healthcare delivery work together toward shared goals.

Innovation with a human focus

A big part of EIT Health’s work is innovations designed to improve everyday lives. In Spain, cardiac patients benefited from Corify Care’s ACORYS® technology, which enables clinicians to identify arrhythmia sources within minutes without invasive procedures, improving treatment safety and speed.

In Ireland, Luminate Medical’s compression-based solution helped people undergoing chemotherapy protect hair follicles, supporting dignity and emotional well-being during a challenging time. In Czechia, individuals living with diabetes gained greater confidence and control through Vitadio’s digital therapy app, which combines AI-supported coaching with clinical oversight to support daily disease management.

These examples show how collaboration across borders and disciplines can turn complex challenges into trusted solutions with direct patient benefits.

Impact in numbers

The scale of EIT Health’s contribution in 2024 is reflected in its results. During the year, 12 new healthcare innovations were launched, reaching more than 283,000 patients and citizens. A total of 372 startups and scaleups received support, collectively raising €227 million in investment. More than 6,000 learners also acquired new skills to help lead transformation across the health sector.

Since its launch in 2016, EIT Health has supported 135 innovations and 3,370 ventures, helped attract €2.4 billion in investment, trained over 70,000 learners, and positively impacted more than 780,000 lives through innovation.

Strength through collaboration

EIT Health’s distinctive model is built around the Knowledge Triangle, which brings together business, research, education, and healthcare delivery. By forming pan-European consortia, innovations are co-created with the evidence, expertise, and pathways needed for successful market entry and adoption in real-world healthcare settings. This integrated approach ensures solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with patient and system needs.

In 2024, EIT Health continued to support innovation across digital health, medical technologies, and skills development, accelerating the journey from research to practice.

As Europe prepares for FP10, the EU’s next research and innovation framework programme from 2028, EIT Health remains committed to building on this momentum.
