Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has invited businesses to take advantage of the opportunities offered through HS2…

Businesses are being encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that will be available as a result of work on high speed rail 2.

Speaking at the central London HS2 Ltd supply chain event, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “We have made the case for HS2. It will transform rail travel, is vital to Britain’s economic growth and has strong support from MPs of all parties. Now it’s time to gear up for delivery.

“With construction due to start next year following Royal Assent, major procurements are already underway with billions of pounds worth of contracts available. I want to make sure businesses across the UK are well placed to bid for work on HS2, as together we work to make this vital railway a reality.

The event, held yesterday, brought together companies of all sizes to showcase the opportunities available through the transport scheme. It also provided insight on how to bid for contracts.

The event was one in a series. Since May, HS2 Ltd has been carrying out supply chain roadshows to meet suppliers and disseminate information.

HS2 is expected to generate around 25,000 jobs during construction and 2,000 apprenticeships.
