Klaus Herburger

    Junior professor (W1)
    University of Rostock

Klaus Herburger is a cell biologist with a focus on the biosynthesis and remodelling of land plant and green algal cell walls, which are the major carbon sinks in these organism. He obtained his PhD from the University of Innsbruck (Austria) in 2016 and received more than 5 years of postdoctoral training at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). Since 2022, he has been working as a tenured Juniorprofessor at the University of Rostock (Germany), where he and his group explore the potential of seaweed farming for sustainable biomass production. In particular, this involves developing non-invasive bioimaging techniques to study algal carbon allocation in response to changing environments.
