    Translational Imaging Innovations

Ronald A. Schuchard is a Clinical Product Development Advisor for many biotech companies. I am also the Executive Director for the Envision Research Institute and Envision University (Wichita, KS).

The research program at the Envision Research Institute is dedicated to investigating the functional implications to vision loss, access to interventions, optimizing rehabilitation therapies, and developing assistant technology. Previously I was Senior Staff / Lead Reviewer in the CDRH at FDA.

Team lead experiences include all types of innovative medical device submissions (e.g., IDE, PMA, De Novo, 510(k), 513(g), Q-Sub, EFS, and EAP) as well as being part of review teams for combination products; both device and drugs as well as device and biologics. I was also part of working groups for new programs in CDRH including Medical Device Development Tools (MDDT) Program and the Digital Health Program.

Also previously I was a researcher at Stanford University and Emory University as well as a Research Career Scientist at the Dept of Veterans Affairs with demonstrated skills in designing and performing innovative investigational studies as well as evaluating pharmaceutical treatments and device interventions for adults who are aging with or into visual impairments. My research portfolio spanned the spectrum of studies into the fundamental mechanisms causing visual impairments to FDA multi-center clinical trials (including orphan indications).

I earned a M.S. in Physics from DePaul University and a Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Chicago as well as completing a fellowship at the Wilmer Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. I am an ARVO Fellow (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology) and serve on many national boards.
