Europe is advancing its efforts to become a global leader in artificial intelligence by launching a newly expanded AI on Demand Platform (AIoD)

The AIoD platform is designed to benefit researchers and industry players. AIoD platform offers a single, trusted digital access point for the continent’s growing AI resources. This includes tools, datasets, services, and expertise.

Developed under the EU-funded AI4Europe and DeployAI projects, with support from EIT Digital, the AIoD brings together previously fragmented AI resources into one cohesive infrastructure.

The AIoD platform is a significant component of the EU’s strategy to promote innovation, technological sovereignty, and AI development, rooted in European values such as trust, transparency, and responsibility.

Personalised for researchers and industry

What sets the AIoD platform apart is its dual-track design, which caters specifically to the needs of the research community and industry stakeholders.

For researchers, the AIoD platform maintains a continually growing repository of over 500,000 AI assets, encompassing a wide range of datasets, software, and advanced tools. Services such as the Metadata Catalogue, AI Catalogue, and the Research and Innovation AI Lab (RAIL) allow users to search, collaborate, and reuse existing AI resources.

These features are particularly effective in facilitating the transfer of publicly funded research into real-world applications, thereby assisting innovations in moving from the lab to the market.

In the industry, the AIoD platform is a powerful tool for SMEs, startups, and public sector organisations seeking to develop and deploy trustworthy, European-compliant AI solutions.

It provides access to low-code development tools, HPC training resources, and secure cloud hosting environments, all while supporting the entire innovation lifecycle. The dedicated AI marketplace offers businesses the opportunity to discover and implement ready-to-use solutions that are aligned with EU regulations and standards.

Creating tools to empower innovation

Several advanced tools and services are embedded within the AIoD platform to guide users through the whole AI development process. The AI Builder helps simplify complex tasks, making it easier for non-experts to engage with AI technologies. The upcoming Success Stories service will provide real-world examples and expert insights to inspire and inform users.

For those who are focusing on robotics, the AIoD platform features Eurocore, a European repository for robotics resources, and RoboCompass, a tool that promotes responsible robotics innovation. All of these features are accessible through a secure, single sign-on system, ensuring ease of use and high security across the platform.

Projects driving the platform

The AIoD platform is being developed and delivered under two major European Commission initiatives. AI4Europe, launched in 2022 under the Horizon Europe programme and coordinated by University College Cork, aims to expand platform capabilities and enhance research excellence through to the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, DeployAI, initiated in 2024 as part of the Digital Europe Programme and led by Fraunhofer IAIS, focuses on supporting businesses with industry-ready AI solutions and runs until 2027.

EIT Digital, a key partner in both projects, brings strong expertise in digital innovation. As coordinator of the EIT AI Community, I help ensure that the AIoD platform addresses current technological needs and also contributes to a long-term, sustainable AI ecosystem in Europe.
