Technical ERP has established itself as a leader in supporting ERP implementations across the UK. The company is now venturing into new markets, particularly the Bluelight sector. John Davidson tells us more

Technical ERP was founded at a time when Cloud ERP was an emerging technology. Organisations were being encouraged – sometimes pushed – towards moving their critical systems into the cloud, but many lacked the in-house expertise to understand what that meant for their infrastructure, their product roadmaps, and their people.

We stepped in to bridge that gap. From the very beginning, our focus was on helping organisations navigate the technical, organisational, and cultural changes that cloud technology demanded. This often meant explaining complex technical shifts in plain language, mapping out the steps needed for a smooth transition, and preparing end users for changes to their day-to-day work.

One of the most significant early relationships we built was with Unit4. Over the years, we’ve worked closely with them as their Cloud Migration Partner, and we believe we have supported more Unit4 migration customers than any other organisation worldwide. That experience has shaped our reputation as a trusted, pragmatic partner who can deliver not just the technology, but the understanding and confidence to make it work.

Broadening our services UK implementation support

As cloud adoption became more widespread, we saw new challenges emerging. Large ERP and transformation programmes were being commissioned, but delivery partners didn’t always have the capacity or capability to provide the specific expertise needed on the ground.

This created an opportunity for Technical ERP to expand. Today, we support many ERP implementations across the UK. In these roles, we provide highly skilled, managed resources who are responsible for:

  • Programme management & governance – ensuring programmes stay on track, on budget, and aligned with business goals.
  • Testing management – making sure solutions work in practice, not just on paper.
  • Change & transformation expertise – helping organisations prepare for and embrace new ways of working.
  • Product & SME knowledge – offering deep expertise in specific ERP platforms and business processes.

What makes our approach different is the background of our consultants. Many have been on the ‘client side’ of an ERP implementation—often in local government – so they’ve lived through the change themselves. They understand the pressures, the politics, and the realities of managing day-to- day operations while implementing new systems.

This unique perspective allows us to take a middle-ground role between the Systems Integrator (SI) and the client. We translate technical requirements into actionable steps or the business, manage the SI relationship, and make sure nothing gets lost in translation. In today’s market, where offshore delivery teams are common, this role is critical – especially as many offshore teams lack the local legislative and operational knowledge that UK organisations depend on.

Expanding into new markets Bluelight sector

While our foundations are in local government and the wider public sector, we are now expanding into new specialist markets. One of the most exciting opportunities is in the Bluelight sector – particularly Policing.

We’ve recently partnered with Futures who are a trusted partner to UK policing and invested in NPPV3 & SC clearance for several of our team members, opening the door to highly sensitive and secure projects. Our first engagements include an ERP replacement review for two constabularies, where we’ll be applying the same principles that have served us so well elsewhere: clarity, collaboration, and a deep understanding of operational needs.

The Bluelight market presents unique challenges – tight budgets, strict security requirements, and the need for absolute reliability in systems that support critical services. We believe our ability to combine technical expertise with sector-specific understanding will make us a valuable long-term partner in this space.

Rethinking recruitment A targeted, quality-first approach

One of the lessons we’ve learned over the years of ERP delivery is that people make the project, and it will fail if you don’t have the right people in the right roles.

Yet, time and again, we’ve seen clients rely on generic recruitment partners for ERP-specific roles. While these recruiters work hard, they’re often operating outside their area of expertise. Their process is usually keyword-driven – searching CV databases, matching a few terms, and then sending over large volumes of candidates in the hope that one fits. The result is often a flood of CVs that look promising at first glance but fail to deliver the depth of experience needed when the project starts.

Our approach is deliberately different.

  • We only recommend consultants we have worked with directly or who come highly recommended by trusted contacts.
  • We aim to present no more than three carefully chosen candidates for any role, each of whom we would be confident to put on one of our own projects.
  • If we can’t meet the requirement with someone we trust, we are open about it rather than taking a speculative approach.

This way, clients don’t waste time sifting through unsuitable CVs, and we protect the integrity of our own reputation. Over time, this has built strong, trust-based relationships with clients who know that when we recommend someone, it’s because we believe they can deliver.

Looking ahead

Rebranding isn’t just about a new name or a new logo. For us, it’s about telling our story more clearly, reflecting the breadth of what we do today, and signalling where we’re going next.

We’ve grown from a niche Cloud ERP migration specialist into a multi-service delivery partner, with expertise spanning programme governance, technical consultancy, change management, and targeted recruitment. We’ve expanded our sector reach from local government into policing and other specialist public services.

And we’ve built a network of trusted consultants whose skills and experience set them apart.

Our mission remains the same: to help organisations get the most from their ERP investment by combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of people, process, and context. But our rebrand will help us communicate that mission more effectively – both to our existing partners and to new clients who can benefit from what we offer.

In short: The name may change, but the principles stay the same. Clarity. Expertise. Trust. Delivery. That’s what we stand for, and that’s what our clients can continue to expect from We Are ERP in the years ahead.
