David Nicholls, Managing Director at Better-IT Ltd, discusses Cyber Essentials and how to become certified to protect your organisation, no matter the size
Soon, all public sector organisations – and the suppliers and consultants they work with – will need to prove they are protected against the growing cyber threats. Big or small, every organisation should get the credentials to showcase that they’re a trustworthy and secure company.
Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed cyber security framework designed to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber-attacks, including:
- Phishing attacks
- Password guessing
- Network attacks
By getting Cyber Essentials certified, you’ll develop a clear picture of your business’s cyber security level, what to do in the case of a cyber incident, and how to implement mitigations.
This is achieved through a self-assessment process carried out under the guidance of our cyber security experts.
Reassure clients and partners that you’re cyber secure
The Cyber Essentials certification will help your organisation:
- Be protected from cyber-threats
- Demonstrate high-quality security controls to stakeholders and clients
- Become eligible to pitch for more contracts (including Government contracts)
It’s a powerful way to win the trust of clients, partners, and stakeholders by demonstrating that you’ve taken essential steps to secure your organisation against cyber risks.
There are two certifications available: Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials PLUS, both of which assess the same technical controls across your business to ensure you have adequate defences against the most common cyber-attacks.
Cyber Essentials is a simple self- assessment while the Cyber Essentials PLUS requires on-site technical testing and verification from a partner like Better IT.
IASME-Certified Cyber Essentials assessors
Established in 2004, Better-IT is a leading Leicestershire-based IT Managed Services provider. We support business growth by enabling you to efficiently manage your business, and work securely from anywhere, on any device through implementation of the Microsoft Modern Workplace. Our technical advisors are IASME-Certified Cyber Essentials Assessors and experts in cyber security and cyber security training.
We can assess your business’ cyber security protocols, provide a gap analysis of where you need to get, provide the guidance you need to navigate the certification process, and perform an on-site technical verification.
As part of our Essentials Certification package, we do everything for you to make it as easy as possible for you to pass and remain at a secure standard throughout the year.
We’ll help you resolve any issues and once we are confident that your cyber security measures are satisfactory in these areas, you will simply need to complete the self-assessment questionnaire and submit your application.
Cyber Essentials is a moving standard. IASME and the National Cyber Security Centre review the standards every year in January. Because we are assessors, we know what is coming next year and can incorporate that knowledge into your business IT planning.
