    Bavo De Witte is a bio-engineer who obtained a Ph.D. at Ghent University. Since 2011, he joined the Aquatic Environment and Quality group of the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO), in Oostende, Belgium

    His main research topic is chemical contamination of the marine environment, including the study of marine litter and microplastics. Bavo is an active member of the ICES Marine Chemistry Working Group (MCWG), co-chair of the ICES Working group on Marine Litter (WGML), member of the OSPAR seafloor litter expert group and member of the EU task group marine litter (EU TGML).

    He is coordinator of the Interreg North Sea Project Anemoi. This project studies the chemical emissions from offshore wind farms and their impact on the marine ecosystem and aquaculture.
