    CIE Smith is professor in molecular genetics at Karolinska Institutet. Smith’s main research interest is cellular signaling, especially protein phosphorylation in lymphocyte development and synthetic oligonucleotide therapies His research group cloned the disease gene, BTK, for X-linked agammaglobulinemia in a collaborative effort.

    His interests include the study of BTK inhibitors, which have become revolutionizing drugs for the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma. He has also developed a program for oligonucleotide medicines, especially for targeting genomic DNA in Huntington’s disease, Friedreich’s ataxia and in other trinucleotide repeat disorders. His publications have been cited >20,000 times, h-index: 71.
