Dr. Kang Lan Tee is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield

She is recognised for her work in protein engineering, synthetic biology and sustainable biomanufacturing and has authored 21 original research papers and four reviews, including publications in high-impact journals such as Nucleic Acids Research, Angewandte Chemie, Biotechnology Advances and PNAS. She also authored the textbook ‘A Practical Guide to Protein Engineering’ (ISBN 978-3-030-56897-9).

In 2019, she was awarded the Global Challenges Research Fellowship to investigate polyhydroxyalkanoate (a type of bioplastics) manufacturing from agricultural waste. This was a collaborative project with researchers from the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Thailand. Her work is funded by UKRI (EPSRC, BBSRC and Innovate UK) as well as industrial partners (H.E.L Group, Croda, Planeat Foods and Nomad Foods).

She is the co-founder of Evolutor Ltd (UK), a university spin out supported by the University of Sheffield, Innovate UK and Research England.
