In the early hours of October 9th, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, carrying 21 Starlink satellites, soared into the skies from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 3:23 a.m. EDT.

After completing its mission, the Falcon 9’s first stage executed a flawless vertical landing at sea on SpaceX’s drone ship, “Of Course I Still Love You,” a mere 8.5 minutes after liftoff. This marked the 14th successful launch and landing for this particular Falcon 9 first stage.

Starlink constellation expansion

Following a brief wait, the Falcon 9’s upper stage deployed the 21 Starlink spacecraft into low Earth orbit precisely 62.5 minutes after liftoff. This launch is a testament to SpaceX’s commitment to expanding its Starlink mega constellation, which already comprises more than 4,800 operational satellites.

Delay and future launch for Starlink

Originally slated as the second of two consecutive Starlink launches, the first launch was postponed for 24 hours due to high winds. SpaceX rescheduled the launch for Monday, October 9th, at 8:42 p.m. ET from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, emphasising their dedication to ensuring safe missions.
