American Minister, David Rutley embarks on a four-day visit to Canada and the US, prioritising stronger security partnerships and economic collaboration benefiting both nations

Minister David Rutley, on his second visit to Canada, will engage with federal and provincial leaders in Ottawa, focusing on UK-Canadian collaboration on global security issues.

Partnership between Canada and the US: Ministers visit

Canada and the US share a unique intelligence and security relationship, with discussions centering on sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine’s fight against Putin’s illegal invasion.

Following his Canadian visit, Minister Rutley will head to Texas and Louisiana to promote the UK as an attractive investment and business partner.

He will emphasise the robust security and defense ties between the UK and the US, deeply interconnected countries with over $1 trillion invested in each other’s economies.

Job creation and economic growth through Atlantic Declaration

Minister Rutley’s discussions with political and business leaders in the US will revolve around enhancing cooperation in key sectors, aligning with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s priorities.

The goal is to bolster economic resilience and create high-quality jobs on both sides of the Atlantic through initiatives like the Atlantic Declaration.

Building bilateral relationships between UK, US and Canada

Minister Rutley will conduct bilateral meetings with state-level political and business figures in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Austin during his US tour.

These interactions aim to foster closer ties at the state level, further solidifying the UK’s relations with the US.

UK’s deep relationships with the USA and Canada

Minister Rutley will also meet Canadian students joining the Chevening Scholarship program in Ottawa, who will soon study in UK universities.

This initiative seeks to build lifelong connections between young talents from both countries, enhancing cultural and educational ties.

Minister David Rutley expressed his enthusiasm for reinforcing the UK’s deep and longstanding relationships with the USA and Canada, underscoring the importance of these alliances in North America.
