The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, met with Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, had a diplomatic meeting at the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania

PM Sunak expressed gratitude to PM Rutte for his years of service and informed him that the United Kingdom and other diplomatic allies would miss his knowledge and friendship when he is to eventually leave office.

PM Sunak and PM Rutte’s dedication to maintaining security

The two prime ministers of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, underlined their unwavering dedication to maintaining security in their respected regions.

Among other things, this entails making sure NATO is entirely prepared to face upcoming challenges.

UK and Netherlands dedicated to supporting Ukraine

Moreover, PM Sunak and PM Rutte discussed delivering Ukraine’s long-term defence capabilities to win this conflict and achieve permanent peace.

The two nations joined forces to denounce Russia’s illegitimate and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and they have continued to support the Ukrainian government and people to enable them to mount an effective defence.

Additionally, they have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders.

They applauded the advancements made thanks to the new international alliance formed by the UK, the Netherlands, and others to give Ukraine access to combat air strikes.

PM Sunak and PM Rutte praised both nations’ cooperation in addressing illegal immigration. The prime minister emphasised the significance of using international fora such as the European Political Community to advance this subject on a bilateral basis.

Strong Dutch and British ties to the EU

The governments of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have had longstanding friendships based on a commitment to foreign policy, diplomacy and inclusive growth.
