Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan is enhancing UK and Indonesia’s low-carbon collaboration by launching the second phase of the Low Carbon Development Initiative (LCDI) during her visit to Indonesia

A significant £27.2 million injection of new UK funding will stimulate sustainable economic growth, all while addressing the adverse effects of climate change. This financial commitment solidifies the partnership between the UK and Indonesia in their quest for low-carbon development.

UK and Indonesia extending collaboration until 2027

The UK and Indonesia have decided to extend their partnership in low-carbon development until 2027. During her visit to Indonesia, Minister Trevelyan will announce this second phase of UK support for LCDI, emphasising the UK’s dedication to climate action and sustainable progress in the Indo-Pacific.

LCDI: Driving sustainable growth

The Low Carbon Development Initiative (LCDI) is a pivotal Indonesian government initiative to reduce emissions and promote sustainable growth. The UK’s initial support, launched in 2017, helped integrate climate targets into Indonesia’s development planning.

The additional funding will further enhance training, capacity building, and the development of science-backed policies and support pilot projects for innovative low-carbon technologies.

Strengthened UK-Indonesia ties

Minister Trevelyan’s visit underscores the UK’s sustained engagement with Indonesia, particularly during its ASEAN Presidency year. High-level visits by UK officials, including Minister Graham Stuart and Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, have strengthened ties.

Minister Trevelyan will discuss global and regional security with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Mansury during her visit. She will also meet with the Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut to discuss economic cooperation and progress under the Joint Economic and Trade Committee.

Additionally, the Minister will meet with ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn to reaffirm the UK’s commitment to ASEAN centrality and its role as a Dialogue Partner.

Finally, Minister Trevelyan will visit Inspire Indonesia, a sports charity focused on educating teenagers about gender equality and raising awareness about the harms of sexual and gender-based violence. This visit reflects the UK’s commitment to addressing critical social issues in the region.
