The Women’s Sports Investment Accelerator, a novel initiative by the Department for Business and Trade, is set to elevate investment in women’s sports

In collaboration with Deloitte’s Sports Business Group and supported by the International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG), this year-long program launches in autumn 2023.

This is an initiative to empower women and promote female-led initiatives.

Growing investment in women’s sports

Aiming to bridge the gap between UK-based women’s sports rightsholders, including leagues, teams, competitions, and events, and potential investors, the program facilitates connections and insights.

The initiative collaborates with industry experts and sports investors to stimulate growth.

Comprising informative sessions, networking events, and comprehensive mentoring, the Women’s Sports Investment Accelerator equips rightsholders seeking investments with essential tools.

From market insights to networking opportunities, this initiative nurtures potential success stories like the FA Women’s Super League and Netball Super League.

Minister’s vision for success in sports

Minister for Industry and Economic Security Nusrat Ghani envisions propelling the UK to become the premier global hub for investment in women’s sports.

The program aspires to build upon the momentum of the Lionesses’ remarkable World Cup journey, attracting investments that foster the next wave of triumphs.

Offering a gateway to investment for women’s sports leagues, teams, competitions, and events, the initiative ensures these entities possess the necessary resources for securing assets and driving progress.

This program underscores a commitment to nurturing women’s sports growth.

A unique facet of this endeavour is its need for more taxpayer cost. Contributors, including speakers and mentors, offer their expertise pro bono. Delivered through the DBT-Deloitte partnership, the scheme utilises Deloitte’s event facilities while experts contribute their time and insights without financial burden.

The burgeoning trend: Investment in women’s sports

The initiative aligns with a burgeoning trend in women’s sports investment. The Lionesses’ captivating journey to the Women’s Football World Cup final exemplified the potential in this industry, projected to amass over £1 billion annually by 2030. As investment rapidly increases, this accelerator is poised to catalyse substantial industry growth.
